Move over Elevator Pitch

Founders obsess over their 'Elevator Pitch' - now there's a new kid in town.
Over Christmas I read an amazing/lifechanging/super dooper business book called Play Bigger by Al Ramadan Dave Peterson Christopher Lochhead & Kevin Maney. The book is a Category Design playbook for building mould breaking businesses that want to “Play Bigger” (like mine)
One of the key questions asked in the book is ‘How would you explain your business to a five year old?’
I thought this would be easy, but no. After hours and hours of trying here’s my best attempt at explaining TrackMyRisks to a five year old…
When grown ups are at work, one of the things they have to do, is look after the business they work in. That can be a tricky job, because there are lots of things that can go wrong. It’s a bit like riding a bike – you have to watch out for bumps and holes in the road that could make you fall off and get hurt.
TrackMyRisks helps the grown ups to look after their business by telling them about the bumps that might be in front of them, and giving them safe and easy ways to get around them.
We send them messages through the computer so that they can remember what they are supposed to do and when they need to do it. A bit like your Mum and Dad reminding you to wear your helmet when you go on your bike.
It’s a really easy way of keeping businesses safe and it doesn’t cost them lots of money, so it makes them bigger and stronger too.
How would you explain your business to a five year old? Please add your best effort to the comments. Prize for the best one!!

7 年Thank you for the share! I will definitely add it to my reading list. I've always said that I “help companies stay in business if something really bad happens” which, I'm sure to some, sounds like an explanation I’d give a 5-year-old.
Localz are all using this book like gospel, it is great. A follow up read is more of a fable but also a great reference piece: Radical Focus: Achieving Your Most Important Goals with Objectives and Key Results by Christina R Wodtke et al. Link: https://amzn.eu/8fsB5fA

7 年In life we have ups and downs and bad things happen. We have to be ready when they happen and that's what I do. I help grown ups withstand, recover, and grow from the bad things that happen to them. I help them become a better person by giving them tools and knowledge to get through it. Like when you fall down and scrape your knee, mom and dad clean the wound and put a band-aid on it, and the wound heals. I help heal grown up wounds.
