Liverpool FC's "Red Way": A Model for Sustainable Football Club Operations

Liverpool FC's "Red Way" initiative showcases the club's ambitious sustainability goals, aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. Despite the challenges of long-distance travel for competitions, the club is committed to reducing its emissions by 90% compared to its 2019/20 baseline. Currently, Liverpool FC operates 94% of its club activities on clean energy and has shifted to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for team buses, cutting carbon emissions by 90%.

The club is also addressing the sustainability of its supply chain and commercial partners, with efforts to align them with its green values. Additionally, Liverpool FC is tackling fan travel emissions by offering bus schemes to reduce the environmental impact of transporting thousands of fans. While offsetting remains a temporary solution, the club continues to explore more sustainable practices to achieve its long-term objectives.
