?
Dear Investors & Friends,
?
Welcome to this week’s SundayReads.
?
A few months ago, I caught up with my friend Subodh over coffee, and, as always, he was glowing from his morning run. Subodh is a picture of consistency, out there every day, rain or shine. And he doesn’t do it alone.
?
Subodh started a community called Bin Shakkar—“go without sugar”—to encourage healthy, active living and cutting out sugar. The group’s energy is contagious; members regularly run marathons and share fitness tips. I’ve even managed to cut back on sugar thanks to Bin Shakkar!
?
But let’s rewind a bit. I wasn’t always a mere sideline walker. Years ago, I was a passionate runner myself, with a coach, Sahaji, who kept me on track. But after Sahahji passed away from COVID-19, I lost my rhythm, and a subsequent ankle ligament tear brought my running days to an end. Since then, I’ve shifted to walking, finding motivation in small steps.
?
I can’t help but notice the difference between my approach and the steadfast commitment of friends like Subodh and another friend, Sangeeta Kini, who we all call “Kini Express.” Both are regulars on Strava, and their discipline is impressive. They don’t miss a day, and it’s this consistency that keeps them sharp, fit, and mentally focused.
?
Watching them made me realize how important discipline and routine are—not only in fitness but in every area of life. Subodh and Kini are naturally motivated, but most of us need a bit of coaching and community support to stay on track. Whether in fitness, work, or personal goals, having a support system—or just a little nudge—can make all the difference.
?
Talking with Subodh and seeing his and Kini’s daily commitment highlights an important truth: movement fuels not just our bodies but also our energy, focus, and mood. Studies show that even a single workout boosts focus and attention for up to two hours—a blessing in any busy day. And long-term benefits? Reduced risk of chronic illness, improved sleep, and enhanced well-being, which are all key for those of us in our 40s, 50s, and beyond.
?
Inspired by Bin Shakkar, here are some practical tips I’ve picked up for adding more movement to daily life:
?
While I may never have Subodh’s speed or Kini’s drive, I’m learning to enjoy the journey rather than obsessing over the destination. So, inspired by friends and a little self-discipline, I’ve committed to moving every day. If I can start, so can you. Let’s take that first step together—whether it’s a quick walk or a light stretch. Small changes add up to big improvements, and together, we can build healthier, more active lives.
?
Are you ready to take the first step?
?
Until next week’s SundayRead, Ciao.
Warm Regards,
