Move it or Lose it joins groundbreaking project to boost national physical activity
We're excited to share that Move it or Lose it has been selected to participate in a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing physical activity for health across England. As one of 39 organisations chosen for this project, we're joining forces with the Active Partnerships National Organisation (APNO) to help bridge the gap between healthcare providers and physical activity initiatives. This collaboration is designed to encourage more people, especially those with or at risk of long-term health conditions, to lead more active lives.
Julie Robinson, CEO of Move it or Lose it, highlights the significance of our involvement in this project:
?
"We're thrilled to be part of a movement that can make a real difference in the nation's health. By working together, we can pave the way for a future where physical activity plays a central role in healthcare."
This Physical Activity for Health Pathways project, funded by Sport England, focuses on fostering strong partnerships between healthcare systems and physical activity providers. Through our participation, Move it or Lose it will work within one of five communities of practice to co-create guidance, develop information tools, and create resources that will help integrate physical activity into healthcare pathways.
Annie Holden, Strategic Lead for Health at Active Partnerships National Organisation, underlined the project's urgency:
"With one in four people living with multiple long-term health conditions and this number expected to rise to two-thirds among those over 65 by 2035, our healthcare systems are under immense pressure. Yet, physical activity can prevent up to 40% of these conditions and help manage more than 20 common physical and mental health conditions. By partnering with organisations like Move it or Lose it and Coventry University, we're laying the groundwork for effective and sustainable pathways."
Being part of this groundbreaking project is a testament to our commitment to promoting active lifestyles and enhancing public health. With APNO and other leading organisations, we're excited to drive meaningful change and encourage a healthier, more active nation.
