As 2019 comes to a close I began reflecting on the past 10 years and what events took place that led me to where I am today. This past decade was filled with incredible heights, but I also received some battle scars along the way.
On this journey, we will experience many mountains and valleys. Learning to navigate both terrains well will better position you to be relevant in rapidly changing industries.
I've noticed that I began to change my train of thought from 'Winning' to 'Staying Relevant.'
“A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play.” - James P. Carse
At times when our primary objective is to WIN, you can lose sight of the valuable lessons that could be learned from a loss. Ray Dalio paints a great illustration of what mountains and valleys should look like over time.
Some of the greatest lessons I've learned are synonymous with great failures. This has given me the opportunity to do a self-analysis and observe what areas can be improved upon to build better character personally and professionally.
Success and failure is typically the result of our daily habits and time equating to a result. It's funny how we can forget this reality, until we are faced with the outcome.
“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”― Darren Hardy
In summary, learning new lessons in the valleys will empower you to climb your next mountain. 'Great leaders are great readers' and sometimes learning lessons from others could make the traveling less painful so you don't acquire too many battle scars.
Wishing you continued success as we embark upon 2020 and remember...
"...There are no winners or losers in an infinite game; there is only ahead and behind." - Simon Sinek
