Motopaws (Remebering Ratan Tata)

Santanu Naidu was working as an automobile design engineer at Tata Elxsi. While commuting every day, he witnessed carcasses of stray dogs run over by the cars on the highway. This is due to poor visibility, particularly at night. He thought of a plan. He, with his volunteer friends, designed a reflective neck collar with the reused denim material and industrial reflector. This collar at the neck of the dogs of Pune gave early visibility and warning to the drivers to avoid running over them.

This 'Motopaws' movement to save the life of helpless dogs, was highly appreciated and found a place in the Tata group company newsletter as well.

One day, Ratan Tata, the Tata group chairperson, invited him to join for dinner.

While Santanu did not expect investment in his small effort, moved by the motive to help the animals, Tata insisted he take an undisclosed sum in the campaign and that paved the way for the Motopaws to expand. This helped the scheme to expand to 11 cities and internationally too. Motopawas expanded to have a training center that coaches their volunteers on first aid to street animals and manufactures 1500 collars with upgrades like waterproof ad fungus-proof collars. More dogs were saved and more improvisation in the belt design was done.

This is not the end of the story.

Santanu left his job for an MBA at Cornell University and graduated. Upon his return, he was called by Tata's executive office to join them. He chose the opportunity to work alongside legendary business leaders like Ratan Tata.?Now his job includes assisting Ratan Tata in his startup investments and providing executive assistance.
