Motivational Speaking and some
This past week I had the unique opportunity to be a guest speaker at a corporate event.
I dusted the old thinking cap off,and set out on my journey. On the way back I thought of Hamlet in Shakespeare whence these words were spoken:
"Now whether it be bestial oblivion, or some craven scruple of thinking too precisely on th' event— A thought which, quarter'd, hath but one part wisdom And ever three parts coward—I do not know why yet I live to say this thing's to do, Sith I have cause, and will, and strength, and means To do't."
The chosen topic was the ancient art and science of handwriting analyses.
In the past I have held many of these talks, yet every audience is a brand new world.
Never being sure of the audience beforehand one needs to be prepared to change the entire direction of the lecture at the drop of a hat.
This turned out to be the case with about 30 seconds before being thrown out..................
Certain audiences are purely academical and theoretical.Others are spontaneous and interactive.A good speaker is able to pick up on the subtle nuances in the room, and act accordingly.
It is critical to feel the energy within the first few minutes, and change tact midstream if need be.The change over process needs to be subtle without even a hint or trace.
Having this event ended off by receiving a standing ovation instead of rotten tomatoes and old cabbages being hurled is bliss beyond.
Next time I may share some critical pointers for a successful seminar and speech.
