As we all wrap up for the weekend, there's some people on here, especially the hyper-driven entrepreneur/intrapreneur crowd who don't shut off over the weekend. These are the hustle 24/7, 5am crew, #tgimonday, work junkies.
Cool.
Now let's take a look at the back half of your Friday afternoon.
Do you find yourself looking at your phone, grabbing coffee / water every hour, browsing articles on the internet, checking your social media?
If you aren't 100% focused on the task at hand, it's a strong sign that your body is stretched to its limits.
It's great to put in some work over the weekend if you're actually productive.
The issue... when you try and put in the work over the weekend and you're already burnt out from the week.
You aren't getting anything done and you end up staring at a blank screen instead of actually writing a report, or completing whatever tasks or assignments you've set out to do.
Stop.
Unwind.
Relax.
Unplug.
Shut off your computer.
Don't check your emails.
Put your phone on silent.
Spend time with your family.
Pick up a hobby.
Go get some fresh air.
By grinding it out over the entire weekend, you could end up hurting your productivity for the upcoming week.
Decompress and remove yourself and allow your mind to recharge and refresh.
Although there are periods where extra hours are warranted and conducive to completing large amounts of work in your downtime, pay attention to the signals your body is giving you. If you're hitting walls and end up achieving very little, it's a good sign that an extended break is necessary. Take a day (or two), and hit the work fresh on Sunday evening or Monday.
Trust me, it will still be there.
