Motivation Minute #5: "trainers got negativity bias"
Starting this week we will be rolling out collaborations with interesting people from around LI and the first in the series is with Clint Clarkson! Clint has been tricking adults into enjoying learning since 2001. He is the founder of eLearning Alchemy and creator of my favourite comics strip L&D Scene. L&D Scene comics are absolutely hilarious relateable comics about trainers and learning professionals. As a trainer for over 10-years myself I was looking for something so on-point like this for ages. Clint has very graciously allowed us to turn his alter-ego into motivation minutes and we are starting off with the one with the "trainers got negativity bias".
As trainers we have all been through this, we look forward to getting that glittering training assessment after a pumped up session with an enthusiastic and super engaged audience. A session where everything just fit, and then .....
I don't think as trainers we should be over critical of ourselves, yes we shouldn't be complacent but a "perfect" training doesn't exist and only engaging disagreement and trying to understand which aspects might not have gone well with even a small group of the audience might lead to learning something extraordinary for future sessions.
Clint adds here that trying to please everyone is a recipe for failure in training as in life. Some people are never happy and just like to complain. Others are just having a bad day. And, a few, may be on the verge of being terminated or resigning. You're not required to action every bit of feedback. Review it all and decide to: 1.) take action on it, 2.) take it into consideration for future events, or 3.) ignore it. Yes, Trainers! That third option is a reasonable one.
And that is today's Motivation Minute!
Motivation Minute is a new series to record everyday thought-provoking scribbles from our daily lives. To see more of Clint Clarkson's work visit www.elearningalchemy.com/comics
