Motivation Minute #4: The Leadership Deficit

Motivation Minute #4: The Leadership Deficit

Oh here we go again, another one on leadership but think for a moment; isn't this happening everyday in our workplaces. Aren't we shying away from bosses, the day we don't come in contact with our leadership is another job well done! Eventually we don't bother to raise our voice and stop taking issues to our supervisors because

  1. they don't care
  2. they don't understand
  3. they will make things even more complicated then they already are
  4. they will start blaming you for the problem
  5. all of the above

Take a moment to absorb what Colin Powell said years ago

"The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership." - Colin Powell

We are witness to this quintessential leadership deficit in organizations at alarming levels. It seems no amount of leadership training has been able to break this wall down. Unless this barrier is broken, supervisors can never transition to become leaders no matter how high the position or title; that should concern organizations.

And that is today's Motivation Minute!

Motivation Minute is a new series to record everyday thought-provoking scribbles from our daily lives. I would encourage my connections to please be a part of this and send me their thoughts through DM.

Once again I agree. A great way to actively fight this issue is to move an organisation from being solely destination focused to be more focused on the journey. This nurtures a culture where problems that were once viewed as obstacles in the way of the destination, are viewed now as part of the journey - and people see opportunities in many of them also. It's another thing I believe separates a true entrepreneur from someone who wants what a successful business will give them. A true entrepreneur is all about the journey - they rarely sees a problem as an obstacle in the way of their destination.
