Is motivation is a lie? The TRUTH about motivation

Is motivation is a lie? The TRUTH about motivation

One of the top excuses I hear for not working out is:

"I'm just not motivated"

(Followed closely by "I don't have time")

We are all on a quest to "find our motivation" or "stay motivated," but let's dig a little deeper: Is motivation truly the catalyst for success in our fitness journey, or is there more to the story?

No one is motivated 100% of the time

It's crucial to recognize that even the most dedicated fitness enthusiasts experience fluctuations in motivation. We all have days where getting up from the couch feels like too much effort.

Acknowledging that these moments are normal and inevitable can alleviate the pressure to always feel motivated.

So, don't strive to be motivated all the time, because it won't happen. Instead, strive to be determined, consistent and do it anyway even when you don't necessarily feel like it.

You have to start moving to feel motivated

The thing about motivation is that it doesn't just appear out of nowhere.

It's easy to fall into the trap of waiting for motivation to strike before taking the first step towards our goals. However, the reality is that motivation is often a byproduct of action. By simply starting to move, whether it's initiating a workout, going outside for a walk, or just fixing your posture, we create momentum that can fuel our motivation. Action begets motivation, not the other way around.

If you are waiting to feel motivated to start, you will be waiting a LONG time.

? So, what does this mean for your fitness journey?

It means that instead of passively waiting for motivation to magically appear, you must take active steps to create it. And once you've created it, you can't depend on it.

My advice, if you're struggling to start because you aren't motivated, is to find something that you don't need a lot of motivation to do.

I understand if you can't will yourself to workout for an hour. But could you do 10-minutes? Yes? Then start there!

Start small to get the ball rolling. And then build from there!
