Motivation & Discipline drives success together

For humankind success is what we live for. Success is defined uniquely by everyone, encompassing a variety of aspects. For some, success is synonymous with achieving personal goals, whether they relate to health, wealth, or relationships, for some – its synonymous with professional success in business, economy or trade and for some, success is about just right relationship and networking.

But now the question is what’s the formula, process or secret of achieving success.

Now the two main challenger for this coveted post of being a companion for success are “Motivation” & “Discipline”. ?

Many professionals and wise leaders have an opinion that its discipline which rules the game, but for many motivations drives the one towards discipline. Usually, discipline is considered more reliable and sustainable than motivation. While motivation can fluctuate and may not always be present, discipline allows you to stick to a routine or plan even when motivation is lacking.

But, the fact is motivation and discipline are together the key factors in attaining the goals and ultimately, success. It's important to recognize that while motivation and discipline are distinct concepts, they each hold significant influence in driving progress and achieving desired outcomes.

Motivation, act as initial spark to start working towards a goal. It is the drive or desire to do something, often stemming from internal or external factors like personal goals, rewards, or inspiration. Motivation is powerful in getting you started on a task or project, as it can fuel your passion and excitement and it can help maintain enthusiasm and momentum along the way.

Further, Discipline, on the other hand, is the ability to control your actions, behaviour, and emotions in order to achieve a specific outcome. It involves consistency, self-control, and commitment to follow through on tasks even when motivation wanes. Discipline helps you stay focused on your goals and allows you to make progress even when you don't feel particularly motivated. Developing discipline can help you establish good habits, maintain consistency in your efforts, and overcome challenges or obstacles along the way.

Ideally, a combination of both motivation and discipline is often the most effective approach. Motivation can provide the initial push and excitement to get started, while discipline helps you stay on track and make consistent progress towards your goals, even when motivation fades. By cultivating both motivation and discipline, you can increase your chances of success in achieving your objectives. For optimal success, a combination of both motivation and discipline is often required. Just to make it simple how to implement both together, lets set a basic process

  • Start with Motivation: Use motivation to kickstart your journey towards a goal. This could be the excitement of a new project, the allure of a reward, or the desire for personal growth.
  • Sustain with Discipline: As motivation fluctuates, rely on discipline to keep you on track. Establish routines, set small, manageable milestones, and practice self-control to maintain consistent effort.
  • Renew Motivation: Regularly revisit your goals and remind yourself of the reasons behind them. Celebrate small wins and use them to rekindle your motivation.
  • Build Habits: Over time, the disciplined actions become habits, reducing the reliance on fluctuating motivation.

One must always remember that we need to have the motivation in place in order to develop the discipline necessary to achieve whatever it is we have our hearts set on. You might be full of drive and determination at the start, but will that hunger still be there when you are encountering serious setbacks, outside forces and voices telling you to quit or relax, or you hit a long plateau?

Hence keep motivated and maintain discipline.
