MOTIVATION

I have been asked this question many times in the past many years now, by several people including my buddies from School days, College days, Clients with whom I have had a long association of over three decades : What Motivates you ? and of course by my own dear wife, but phrased a little differently – “Why don’t you retire ?”

What is it that motivates me to continue to work at my age (modesty prevents me from disclosing this number), seven days a week, more than 12 hours a day most of the days?

I went to one of the best schools in the country – The Madras Christian College High school in Chetput, Madras. I graduated from the IIT Madras, one of the best Technical Institutions in the country. And I paid a measly sum of Rs. 10 at MCCHS and Rs. 12 per month at IIT Madras as tuition fee ! And to top it Rs. 25 per month as hostel fee for a single room all to myself at the Saraswati Hostel

I truly believe the good citizens of my country paid for this luxury, invested in me, to educate me. That education earned me a full scholarship for my Graduate studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, which honed my knowledge and special skills in Wastewater treatment.

And I must repay that debt to my Nation. This is my Motivation that keeps me going day after day after day. And I am extremely happy doing it. One does not tire when serving one’s Nation.
