Motion vs. Action
Andrew Hitz
I help musicians define success for themselves and ensure their actions are aligned with their priorities. You can find me at The Entrepreneurial Musician, Pedal Note Media and Hitz Academy.
Motion always *feels* like action. But action is so much more than that.
Action is intentional. Action is deliberate. Action is always with an end goal in mind. Action is what gets your most vital work done.
Things I do that feel like action but frequently aren't:
- Checking my email
- Cleaning out my inbox
- Over-editing things that are already good enough to share
- Researching just a little more before beginning to create
- Multitasking
- Asking just one more person for advice before starting something
My full list is an awful lot longer than this!
Telling the difference between motion and action is the biggest productivity hack I know and all it takes is practice. And all it requires is self-awareness, which is easy except for when it's not!
With a concerted effort over time, anyone can move from motion towards the ideal of action. It's worth the effort!
