This week’s theme is laptops. Let's dive into it!
1. Microsoft Surface Pro
Client: 微软 — Studio: FutureDeluxe

DOP - Paul Wegman
Shoot Production - Swanson Studio
VFX Supervisor - Andrew Dole
Roto + Tracking + Compositing - Flawless Post

Creative Insight
In this collaboration with Microsoft, FutureDeluxe designed and directed a launch film for their flagship device, the Surface Pro 8. The film captures how Surface Pro and Windows 11 empower users to navigate their day seamlessly. The film combines live-action, digital environments, and CG renders highlighting the intricate details and innovative features of the device. The launch film is a great example of how to integrate live-action in 3D environments elegantly. The film’s biggest creative driver take away is the idea behind the collage-style pan across multiple scenes showcasing the different uses, something not usually associated with the style of the film.

2. ASUS Zenbook S series - Genius Zen
Client: ASUS — Studio: dosomething studio
Creative Insight
dosomething studio was invited to produce visuals for the Computex 2024 event for ASUS. As tech has taken a more human-centric approach, shooting effects in camera with RED cameras and probe lenses on sets while using 3D to aid the visual narrative in scenes where nature is manipulated in certain ways and more dreamy setups were needed. The impact from the film is that not everything needs to be produced digitally. Combining the the best of both digital animation to honoring the craftmanship of designing and building sets something really special to me. Operating with specialists and studying things in camera as well as crafting them digitally is two sides of the same coin. What I feel is a homerun in the film is the visual metaphors used in the symmetric visuals. It plays very well along with the human brain’s love for patterns both visually and in pacing.

Animation Direction and DOP: Anatolii Belikov
CGI: @Daniel Büttner, Anatolik Belikov Studio
Concept Artist: Anatolik Belikov Studio
Creative Producer/Editor: Conrad Oswald
Production assistant: Amine Boulkroun
Sound: Ateq music
Creative Insight
For the DELL XPRS13 laptop film, bus.group collaborated with Anatolik Belikov to develop a concept that captures the essence of versatility and change. The studio came up with the creative concept of day and night, noise and calm to emphasize the seamless transistion between states while highlighting the features. What comes to my attention in the film, is very subtle lighting and elegant swift but the beautiful transitions in the edit and the almost calming atmosphere giving vibes of meditative feelings. Animation wise, the transformations as the feature keys merges with the surface and becomes a touch pad is the hightlight.

Conclusion
We are currently seeing a trend with mixed media, which is an exciting oportunity for all creatives to be involved. The dual approach enriches the visual experience, making projects like these feel human-centric and grounded while showcasing the unique capabilities of the products. I think we’ll see this approach a lot more ind the future, as VFX is getting more accessible and techniques are getting easier.
