A Mother's Love and Passion: How Sweety's Delights Came to Be

On this International Women's Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate the most important woman in my life: my mother.

At a very young age, my mother got married and started a family. As a result, she put her own aspirations on hold. However, my late grandmother told me that my mother had a natural talent for bharathanatyam and, most importantly, cooking. But once she got married, she devoted herself entirely to her husband and children.

She treated my father like a king. She never allowed us to travel alone and would spend countless hours waiting for us at school, tuition, and sports practices. Additionally, she took on the responsibility of caring for her own mother during the last stages of her life, never leaving her side.

After my grandmother passed away five years ago, my mother felt her duty was done. My brother and I were old enough to take care of ourselves, and her mother was no longer with her. So what did she do? She followed her passion for baking and cooking. Despite already being the best cook in the world to me, she never overestimated herself and continually looked for courses to refine her baking techniques. She launched her own business, Sweety's Delights, just because she wanted to follow her passion.

Her business started with just a cake or two a week, but now she caters to larger organizations in both the public and private sectors. Despite rising costs, my mother never compromised on quality and never made profits her ultimate motive. Instead, she focused on maintaining the quality of her products because her name was on them.

From my mother's journey, I learned some valuable lessons that we can all apply:

  1. It's never too late to learn.
  2. You can never know too much to start from scratch again.
  3. Never compromise on quality.
  4. Profits should never be your ultimate motive; they should just be a byproduct.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my mother, "Sweety Aunty". She is my guiding light and my guardian angel. Happy International Women's Day!
