Mothers Are Leaders of Organizations, Like Families

Mothers Are Leaders of Organizations, Like Families

Why are moms  CEOs, CFOs, CIOs and the entire band?  Who else will work 24/7/356 for little or no pay and immediate reward?  Who else will take care of sick family members, slug though the night and make it to work on time, then give a full faith effort?

Dads are invaluable people.  They too wear many hats.  I appreciate what men contribute to our world.  Yet I think it is time to give credit in the work place to mothers, pay wise and with a good title.  Too often the sacrifice of family is the greater good to an organization like a family.  That said, when it comes to the financial end of the stick, women often come up short.  Whether it is because a mother is single and struggling or a professional and contributing generously, often times it is the mother whose efforts are not compensated like her male peers.  Simply put, motherhood can and does get in the way of the typical corporate advancement strategies of men.

We owe it to ourselves in the modern day workplace to stand up for ourselves financially.  There are also the demands of taking care of extended family members like aging parents and relatives.  My heart goes out to mothers like my sister-in-law and friends with disabled children.  It has to be challenging to remain very competitive when ones energies are being pulled into multiple important arenas.  Many times the traditional role of worker needs to be creatively solved by women in order to produce paying work around families.  Creative solutions like working from home or multiple part time jobs.  These are solutions yet they don't pay off the way a linear progression of responsibility in a company shows in terms of growth and leadership.

Would it be too much for our competitive society to become a little nicer to the employed, underemployed or unemployed mothers?  All mothers work.  It not always for pay.  And they are on 24/7/365, like it or not.  Maybe the thinking about measurement of what it takes to make or break  a leader ought to be seen in terms of endurance rather than touchdowns?  Mothers certainly endure a great deal.  Nothing said against fathers, mothers endure lots of emotion and challenges in the work force quite frankly that many men don't deal with because they are men.  At least that has been an experience of mine.

Thank you to all the men in the workforce who give credit where credit is due to mothers.  Whether they are employed or not, mothers contribute invaluably to society. Mothers are the original captain, quarterback, cheerleader and "water boys" of all sorts of teams called families.  I don't know where I would be without my mother.  As a source of inspiration and correction, mothers are irreplaceable and invaluable.

Consider the next time an important leadership position becomes available to fill, that mothers possess many skill sets, are very flexible, trainable, scalable and most of all experienced at handling tough decisions .  Mothers have grit, give what it takes to get the job done, score the touchdowns, reach the goals.  Mothers are detailed, organized, broad and long ranged thinkers too.

Mother are very important and need to be compensated fairly, across the board in every industry.  Good compensation is a form of giving back to society what women and mothers contribute to it.  I think it is a form of respect.  If you agree or not, I thank you for reading what I have written.  Though it might not be politically correct, I say "Mothers' Live Matter".  God Bless Your Mom.
