Mother AI: What are the AI terms and concepts I should know?

In today’s edition, we’re going back to basics!? Along with learning how to use AI, it’s good to know a few “under the hood” terms that you’ll hear or read about as AI continues to be a hot topic of conversation.?I actually enlisted the help of ChatGPT to categorize these concepts and then explain them to me like I’m an eighth grader…You’re welcome!!

Here's a few Fundamental Concepts

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): the concept of creating computer systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence. It involves simulating human-like thought processes, learning from data, recognizing patterns, and making decisions based on that knowledge. AI is being referred to as the 4th Industrial Revolution.
  • Algorithm: Imagine an algorithm as a set of instructions, just like a recipe to your favorite dish. In AI, algorithms are like the secret sauce that tells computers how to do things step by step. They help AI figure out problems and make decisions.
  • Responsible AI: using artificial intelligence in a way that is safe, fair, and considerate of everyone involved. AI systems, like the large language model we just discussed, have a lot of power to influence our lives, so it's essential to use them responsibly.? One aspect of responsible AI is making sure that the data used to train the AI model is diverse and doesn't show bias or unfairness.? Responsible AI also involves protecting people's privacy and making sure that their personal information is kept safe.

How we use AI:

  • Chat Bot: Picture a chatbot as a friendly robot that can help answer questions, give suggestions, or facts about something! We’re seeing them more and more on retail and service based websites.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Have you talked to Siri, Alexa or use Google Assistant? Well, they use Natural Language Processing! It's like having a computer friend who understands human language and talks back to us like a real person.
  • Language Learning Model (LLM):? is like a super-smart computer program that is designed to understand and generate human language. It uses lots of data and complex algorithms to learn how people talk, write, and communicate.? Chat GPT, Bard and Bing are each powered by their own LLM.

Mechanics of AI:?

  • Data Mining:? Data mining is like searching for valuable information in a big sea of data. It helps find hidden patterns and useful stuff in lots of information!
  • Machine Learning (ML): Imagine a computer as a curious friend who learns by seeing examples instead of being told what to do. Machine Learning is when computers learn from lots of examples and get better at doing tasks without someone giving them step-by-step instructions.
  • Neural Networks: Think of neural networks as a team of tour colleagues working together on a project. They're really good at recognizing patterns and learning from their mistakes. This helps them get even better at solving tricky problems!
  • Deep Learning: Deep learning is like the superpower of neural networks! It allows them to go really deep and understand super complex things, like recognizing objects, speech, and driving cars.
