The Most Underrated Sales Weapon
We're getting to that tricky part of the year.
It's midway through Q2. Your momentum from Q1 has mostly died, if not completely. You remember that nothing in sales is guaranteed. You're starting to wonder if your forecast is as accurate as it could be, and you're starting to wonder if your pipeline is as big as it could be.
A?little bit of doubt, while it can be productive at times to motivate you,?can also crush you if you let it. You and I both know that the biggest success killer out there is doubt, and what you need to do on a daily basis is reaffirm your belief in yourself.
That belief system is what will carry you through to all your hopes, dreams, and successes, but it's much more difficult to maintain and improve than you may have been led to?believe.
I've been one of those people who will tell you, and I often remind myself,
"Hey, Jeff, remind yourself of what you know to be true. Control what you can. Keep your chin up, put your head down, lean forward, and get to work.?You can do this."?
But what do those cliches mean?
They're true, and sometimes they're exactly what you need. Other times, they just don't get the job done. I've rolled my eyes at more than one?in the past. So what do you do when you need a little bit more?
I think the ultimate secret weapon in sales is somebody who knows you better than you know yourself.
For me, that's my wife. For you, it may be your spouse,?a business partner, or a really good friend. You want someone who's seen you when you're up and?when you're down. They know exactly how to pick you up when you need a little levity, and they know how to ground you when you get a little too full of yourself. That's what a good partnership does.
You may not be married,?but you probably have someone that you can still lean on.?When things get tricky, those are the people?you need to pull aside.?
It's worth spending an hour with them,?having a cup of coffee, or?taking them to lunch. It's worth just sitting quietly and talking about what you're afraid of, what you're inspired by, and everything in between. These secret weapons are in the arsenal?of every successful person I've ever met, known, or even read about.

Life's a team sport. You don't go at it alone.?
One of the things that I'm most guilty of is not asking for help often enough, not trusting my people, not trusting my partner to help me.
"She's not in sales; what does she know?"
A lot more than I probably give her credit for, but she also knows me well enough to know when I need her. She always seems to have the right thing to say, and it always seems to be a whole lot of truth. It never seems to be one of those things you'll see on a postcard or a T-shirt.
You have one of those people in your life—or, if you're lucky, a couple of them.
When things get tricky, whether you are way ahead of your goal or when it feels like you will never find it, those are the people you need to lean on. They're the ones who will help you get?where you need to be.
My wife is one of my heroes, and on Mother's Day (or any day), she deserves recognition as my secret weapon and the person who supports me more than any other.
Who are you thanking today?
Until next week,
JB
