Most taxpayers with extension to file 2023 tax returns have until October 15

Filing tax returns is an annual procedure that many taxpayers must complete in order to comply with their tax responsibilities. However, for various reasons, some of them may need to request an extension to file said return. The deadline for most taxpayers who have requested an extension to file their 2023 tax returns is quickly approaching. October 15 represents the last day for these individuals to send their documentation to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Remember that this can be done electronically, which is a fast and secure way.

It is important to note that requesting an extension does not release the taxpayer from the obligation to pay any tax owed before the original deadline. Although the extension provides more time to file the return, any corresponding payment must be made before the originally established deadline, in order to avoid incurring penalties and interest for late payments. Please note that you can make these payments electronically, on the IRS website, using a debit or credit card, or a digital wallet. If you do not have the resources to pay, you must request a payment agreement.

It should be noted that people with an extension who reside in a federally declared disaster area may have more time to file. As well as certain members of the military and eligible support personnel in combat zones.
