The most sought after jobs in climate tech |June 2 2023

Hello everyone,

This week Bloomberg Green published an interesting study about the most sought after climate tech jobs.? For those of you looking to transition to climate tech and ESG this is interesting data. It was published by the?global hiring and networking site Climatebase. In fact, it posted more than 46,000 jobs from over 1,500 organisations over the past two years. Across all the job postings shared on the site over the last two years:

??The most in-demand category is software engineering and the next three were more general in nature: sales, operations, marketing and communications.

??Data science and analytics are the the hardest positions to fill.

?? Interesting to see that software engineering and operations remains the most in demand category across all climate related sectors whether its green building, or transport or carbon removal.

3 great climate news:

?? EU Parliament Votes to Require Companies to Introduce Climate Transition Plans (ESG Today)

Did you know:?

  • The new rules initially apply to companies with over 500 employees and more than €150 million in revenues, extending later to companies with over 250 employees and €40 million revenue.
  • The new rules would also include sanctions and supervisory mechanisms for companies that fail to comply, which could include having the company’s goods taken off the market, the imposition of fines as high as 5% of the company’s global revenues, or – for non-EU companies – bans from public procurement in the EU.

??No destroying unsold goods: EU countries agree on green product rules (Euroactiv)

Did you know:?

  • Consumer products like clothing are considered to be a burden on the climate, with some estimates stating that up to 10% of global CO2 emissions are textile-related.?
  • To reduce the waste associated with consumer products and boost their reuse in some shape or form, the EU’s executive launched a reform of the product rules framework in 2022 – known as the Ecodesign regulation.
  • At the heart of the Ecodesign rules will be the new “digital product passport” that will display information about a given product’s environmental sustainability. Brussels argues that this will help consumers make more informed choices.
  • “In the future, products must be energy-efficient and also durable, repairable, reusable and recyclable in order to be offered on the EU’s internal market,” explained Sven Giegold, a former green EU lawmaker who now handles the negotiations on behalf of Germany.

??Solar investment outshines oil as race for clean energy heats up (Al-Jazeera)

Did you know:?

  • Investment in solar power is expected to overtake oil for the first time this year as clean energy spending outpaces that for fossil fuels.
  • Investment in solar power, essentially photovoltaic panels, to hit $380bn this year, while investment in oil exploration and extraction should come in at $370bn.
  • A combination of factors – in particular high oil and gas prices and a worry about supplies – has seen spending on renewables surge ahead.
  • Clean energy investment was concentrated in advanced nations and China, while the biggest increases in fossil fuel investment are in Middle Eastern nations.

One quote to keep you decarbonising hard ??

“The attention you give to any action should be in due proportion to its worth.”
