Dear Readers,

01. OpenAI Unveils Framework to Assess AI 'Catastrophic Risks'

OpenAI has released comprehensive guidelines aimed at evaluating potential 'catastrophic risks' posed by emerging AI models. This move follows recent leadership turmoil within the company, with CEO Sam Altman being dismissed and reinstated amid concerns over the prioritization of rapid AI development over risk assessment.

The newly published "Preparedness Framework" is designed to bridge gaps in understanding and addressing Catastrophic (??????? ???????????) AI risks. A monitoring team, established earlier, will evaluate advanced models based on their potential risks in categories like cybersecurity, potential harm through chemical or biological creation, persuasive abilities, and autonomy.

Models scoring above a 'medium' risk level will not be deployed, and risk assessments will be reviewed by OpenAI's Safety Advisory Group before potential modifications to mitigate risks. This framework aims to ensure responsible AI development, although the board retains oversight and may intervene in management decisions.
