My Actual Pre-Launch Product Strategy In Action

Over the last decade, I've had my fingers in a bunch of pies, launching all sorts of stuff. The latest was a complete blowout—raked in a cool million in just one day! Now, I'm switching gears and diving into the world of publishing. I'm working on a book launch, so if you've ever daydreamed about penning your own book or getting a physical product out there, this strategy's totally for you.

Just to clear up any confusion, I'm not talking about my manuscript book that's shipping out this week. This is a full-fledged book that's in the works with a major publisher, and I'm teaming up with my pal Dr. Brad Klontz on this one.

If you've been keeping an eye on my Facebook feed over the past 9 months, you've probably seen some posts with pretty bold headlines:


Well, that was all part of the plan—we were testing out chapter titles! And, let me tell you, it totally worked!

Now that we've shipped off our book proposal to our agent, we're shifting gears to the next stage: pre-launch strategies. Here's the thing about snagging a spot on the NY Times Best Seller list—you need to sell a whopping 15,000 books in the first week of release. But here's the good news—Amazon pre-orders count towards that number! We're not sure how long we'll have to collect pre-orders, but the more time, the better—we could have anywhere from 30-100 days. (ps: Brad is the one who asked me to write a book with him. He has his heart on becoming a NY Times best seller. He says with that title you can charge upwards of $40K per speaking gig! Making $40K for an hour on stage!? He also says it is one of the most prestigious titles you can hold...I said... hell yes I'm in!)

I'm gonna go all out on this one and reach out to literally everyone I know, and even those Facebook friends from high school, to ask them to buy my book. You might be thinking, "A book's usually around $20-30, why should I buy yours?" Well, we're piling on the value so high you won't be able to resist!

Here's what we got in mind: Brad and I have put together this kickass money masterclass that will go for $1,000. But guess what? If you buy our book, you get it for free! Same deal with our 4-week virtual money mastery workshop. So yeah, buying the book will be a total no-brainer.

This whole strategy is called value stacking and it works like a charm in any industry.

Value Stacking: Taking your original offer and adding complimentary & exclusive bonus offers to make the original offer seem like a no brainer decision to buy.

Next up, we're thinking about setting up a referral program where you can score some cool rewards just for recommending our book!

While Amazon commissions might be peanuts, we'll be introducing incentives that'll have you jumping to promote our book. Sell a certain amount, and you could get free access to the workshop and masterclass, a $500 cash bonus, an Apple product, or even an all-expenses-paid trip to Austin for a one-on-one workshop with me and Brad. We're still hashing out the details, but it's gonna be a blast!

In the content department, Brad and I just spent a whirlwind few days filming a limited series podcast for the book—18 episodes in 3 days, no less. The main aim? Get people to pre-order the book. We're also expecting a ton of bite-sized content that'll help spread the word to our combined audience of around 3 million. (Hoping to get +200 short form videos from what we filmed)

Lastly, if we need a little extra push towards that 15,000 pre-order mark, we're ready to unleash some targeted ads. The goal? Get folks to buy the book. I estimate it could cost between $5-13 per sale running ads.

So there you have it, folks—the master plan. And it just goes to show how much prep work goes into a la/unch. If you wait till after your product's out in the world to start marketing, you're already lagging behind big time.

Random Personal Bullet Notes:

  • I buy my groceries online. It takes too much time to go shopping in the store. The only things I may stop in the grocery store are specific cuts of meat or fish that I want but I make sure thats the only thing I need so I can get in and out in 5 mins
  • I think I am only going to fly first class now (unless it's outrageous). I've held on to this one tightly flying coach and even Spirit airlines recently priding myself on the fact of frugality. Either I have achieved the next level of passive income or I've realized how much better first class is.
  • I'm trying to get better out getting out of the 'tactical' as CEO of my companies I find myself still doing tactical work.
  • Don't watch the news EVER. It's just straight up bad for your mental health.
  • I posted about finding role models today on Facebook. I shared how I want to take life advice from someone who is well balanced in health, wealth and relationships. I mentioned that for example I don't like taking advice from a successful person who is very obese or has been through multiple divorces. It SEVERELY triggered people specifically the obese comment. I deleted the post and rephrased it to focus more about ME vs others but damn. I truly believe no amount of wealth is worth it at the sacrifice of your relationships or your health. I want to be wealthy, healthy and have a great marriage and family values.
