Most practical tools
SigmaGuru is helping clients improve their profitability for more than 20 years, but I was foxed when one asked me to tell him beforehand which tools I am going to use….
After some introspection, I came to the conclusion -
Observation - Number 1 tool for any improvement. This helps you to know more about the problem / ground realities. Go to Gemba is the first step to any improvement, of course. It helps you to collect data, talk to concerned people, take them into confidence, ask them about possible solutions - you will be surprised how often they know the solution, but are prevented from using it by the system.
Commonsense - which is very uncommonly used - you know the cliche. What is common sense to one person, may not be to another. This is the main reason, why consulting business is flourishing, and will continue to flourish as businesses continue to focus on the core competence ( very rightly so) and get rid of older members to cut costs. Older members have more commonsense, naturally.
Experience - this a no brainer. Obviously a professional driver will take you to your destination faster than a novice driver. This is also the reason, why many clients prefer “older” consultants.
A combination of all 3 - all the 3 above are crucial. Even if one element is missing, results will be hard to come by.
And you will be surprised that ShaininDOE tools incorporate all these elements.
Obviously, these tool are unbelievable powerful in problem-solving.

6 年Dear Mr. Bapat, New picture is better than the earlier one. I have also many times found that right mix of Observation , Common sense and Experience leads you to a logical , feasible and quickly implementable solution to organization's complex " Business Process " related chronic problems as compared to the conventional time consuming approach of building & solving a " Business Model " using historical process data. Shainin DOE tools are powerful tools for problem solving but unfortunately for a variety of reasons they are rarely used for solving misc. types of problems in an organization. Regards Aniruddha?

6 年Dear Mr. Bapat, I have seen above picture many times on internet but the underlying message is same and that is -- Real Problems / Situations in an organization may not be as simple as they seem to people from different depts in an organization. There is a need to agree to a common reference point / baseline and be on the same page for arriving at a logical & feasible solution to an organization's chronic problem.? In my opinion DMAIC ( Define , Measure , Analyse , Improve & Control ) is a good technique to begin with so that a logical and feasible solution to the problem can be found using Measure , Analyse , Improve & Control phases after the problem has been defined in a crystal clear / unambiguous way in the D - Define phase itself. Thanks and regards Aniruddha??
