The Most Powerful Reporting tool in Primavera P6, using Resource Assignment Tab in Linear Construction

Using P6 in Creating Schedule Baselines and Updates is the common, But when reporting most planners forget the the resource Assignment tab.

Resource allocation is the process of assigning and scheduling available resources in the most effective and economical manner.

Linear or repetitive construction Projects is usually care about units per time period for a certain repetitive similar activity such as Construct one kilometre per month, floor per week or column per day.

The most common question for top management or reports receiver to monitor the concerned projects as mentioned above is How many units should I execute per time period for a certain activity?

Other use for Projects mangers, May they need to determine the proper timing of other resources within the project schedule.

Here are the steps to easy monitor the Activities in Linear Construction:

1-    Create new resource you can call “Units” or any you prefer, make it material type and price per unit equal zero.

2-    Open activities and start adding the “Units” resource to any repeated activities you need to monitor.

3-    Open resource assignment tab and justify the budget units by equaling all budget units to be One and fill down to all assigned activities.

4-    Keep in resource assignment tab, Group your similar activities by coding system you create before or any grouping technique you prepare such below figure.

5-    Now check the time line and view time scale that you need to report for, you find that all no of activities/units distributed according to your time schedule.

Note: Use the budget units for Each work Package or grouping separately not for all the resource.

6-    You can copy the budget units to excel sheets and enjoy reporting in easy way that top management most like to monitor.

You can also use resource assignment in Earned value reporting in any grouping or coding you add, like each building each floor, discipline or work package, in the same above mentioned steps but instead of using "Units" resource, Use cost loaded resource or your waiting system one.
