Maozhou River to be clear of sewage in 2017
SHENZHEN launched a project to clean up the 18 branches of the Maozhou River, with water-quality-improving facilities expected to come into service next year. The river should be clear of sewage in 2017, Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.
Officials at Shenzhen’s water resources bureau held a meeting with the leadership in Bao’an District on Saturday about cleaning up the Maozhou River. The bureau head, Wang Lixin, said improving the Maozhou River’s water quality is one focus of the bureau’s plan.
Bao’an District has come up with a plan to accelerate the cleaning of the Maozhou River, including 52 construction projects and 48 management measures.
A pipe-network project for dividing rainwater from sewage is expected to be completed by 2020, five years earlier than previously planned. The extensions of two sewage plants are expected to be finished by 2017, three years earlier than originally planned. Water-quality-improving facilities will come into service next year.
Bao’an District has 40 flood-control and 19 river renovation projects under construction, while construction on 383 flood-control facilities was launched in the district this year, with an overall investment of 17.15 billion yuan (US$2.69 billion).
