FUNDING POINT – IMPROVING THE ODDS OF FUNDING
I believe that most small businesses are fundable, although the probability of success may be low.
?I also believe that many small businesses have a funding ‘soul mate’ – a source of funding that needs the small business to succeed in order for the investor to attain their goals.
?What is certain is that every small business can take steps to improve the probability of raising funds.
?Build the Team
?A business is primarily judged by its management team. The team reflects the ability to convert an opportunity into a profitable business. The more knowledge and experience on the team, the more likely that it can overcome every challenge. The team should include all employees, directors, advisors, contractors, and suppliers.
?Elevate Credibility
?The words of others will be given higher value. The business should seek every customer testimonial, expert opinion, government permit and license, independent certification, or voice outside of the business that will verify its team, market, products or services, and opportunity.
?Elevate Impact
?The benefits of the success of a small business will reach beyond the business. The greater this impact, the more people will know of, value, and support the business in raising funding. The business would know these impacts and amplify them whenever the opportunity presents itself.
?Be Visible
?Investors can only invest in businesses of which they are aware. The business should engage in self-promotion that makes it stand out from all others. This set of activities is as much as standing on a higher soap box as it is sharpening the message to target those people who will care the most about the success of the business.
?Fund the Capital Campaign
?Capital campaigns cost time and money. The business should have enough funding to complete all of the campaign activities plus all of the activities described here without starving the primary operations of the business.
?A well-developed capital campaign plan within a well-designed capital strategy will enable entrepreneurs to identify, plan, and execute actions that may address each of the activities described above. It is not enough to be simply ‘fundable’. The small business should excel in fundraising like any other activity in which it engages.
?
GUESTS WANTED
?I am building a community of people working to support small businesses in obtaining funding. If you are one of these people, I would like you to consider being a guest on my Successful Funding show. This series of events features conversations between myself and others who are my allies in achieving successful small business funding. You may be a service provider like myself, a vendor of products and services implemented in conducting a small business capital campaign, or a program or collaboration working to improve small business access to capital.
?Appearances on the show are unscripted, one-hour conversations with myself and others who share in this same goal. Shows are weekly at 8 a.m., MDT (Denver time). Each show is dual broadcast to Facebook and YouTube. Shows are recorded and publicly available for watching at a later time and reused by guests in their own work. My Successful Funding show and my Instant Funding newsletter have been viewed over 50,000 times in the last 90 days. This number will increase over time and provide a growing platform for your message.

SUPERCROWD CHICAGO
?SuperCrowd Chicago will be held on June 12th in Chicago. It represents the next opportunity for people interested in investing through investment crowdfunding and for businesses seeking to raise funding through investment crowdfunding to come together, meet, and share information.
?I will present a workshop for small businesses, community leaders, and service providers on how to craft investment offers that are customer-focused.

CAMP WAPIYAPI AND COLFAX MARATHON
?I will be participating in the shortest part of the Colfax Marathon on May 18th – the 5K (run, jog, walk, enjoy being outdoors) to raise money for Camp Wapiyapi – an outdoor camp for kids with pediatric cancer that will hold camping sessions in late June (male volunteers are still needed as camper companions).
?If you are interested in also raising money through this fun event, there is still time to register and sign up to support Camp Wapiyapi.
?Party Gets Started With the Colfax 5K
?Thousands will gather on Saturday, May 18th for a 5K to kickoff Denver's largest running weekend that includes a well-organized course, dogs, and race shirt.
?The finish line has food and DJ Sinna-G (on-air radio personality from 100.3 FM) to keep the party going!
?The party starts in Denver's City Park at the same spot as Sunday's Marathon. Run a PR or walk it with friends and oh yeah, dogs are invited! They will have a blast with their own bandana and hundreds of their friends!

QUOTATION
?“A problem well stated is a problem half solved.”
?Charles Franklin Kettering?(August 29, 1876 – November 25, 1958) was an American inventor, engineer, businessman, and the holder of 186 patents.[2]?He was a founder of?Delco, and was head of research at?General Motors?from 1920 to 1947.?
?Most investment offerings talk only about the business, or only about the problem, without explaining how the business will solve the problem.

?DON COHEN SHOW
I was a guest on Don Cohen’s show on LinkedIn Live on Monday and Wednesday this last week and will be a guest on Monday. I enjoy being a guest and engaging in conversations with other guests and with Don on building communities and using LinkedIn as a communication channel. Every show is its own adventure as we start with a word of the day and then see where the conversation goes from there.
Don is an expert on LinkedIn, particularly on the use of Live streaming to build brands and communities. We will discuss using LinkedIn as a social media platform for building communities that support raising funding.
