The most mind-blowing Unit of Measure of the Universe
?
If you want, have a try to this short and good video about what a Parsec is.
What is parsec ??How 1 parsec is measured?
What?!? Why do you bother about parsec?
No, I'm not trying to get involved on some freaky space journey. You have to know that I'm taking a introductory astronomy survey class on Coursera. This is called "Evolving Universe" it is done by Professor S. George Djorgovski at Caltech, and I love it!
It covers our understanding of the physical universe and its major constituents, including ?????????????????????????????????,? ??????????,? ????????????????,? ?????????? ??????????,? ??????????????,????????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????? ???????????????? as a whole.

But then, apart from having some background smattering about Math and Units of measure and Science jargon, the class is perfectly 'followable'... the fact is that the orders of magnitude about professor Djorgovski speaks about are mind-blowing. And you have to refer also to other sources to get an idea of them. Ot to trust them.

What is a parsec. Well, easy to ask, not easy to respond. One definition (until it gets smashed by some other unit) is: Parsec is the longest unit of measure known by humans. Yes, the longest voyage begins with one single Parsec.
A parsec is the distance — 3.26 light-years — that a star must lie from the Sun for its parallax angle to be exactly 1 arcsecond (1/3600 of a degree).
It is exactly when the YT video comes in handy.
So have a look at it, the universe will provide meaning to many math subject you've probably studied and hated at college.

S. George Djorgovski is a Professor of Astronomy at Caltech. He has worked on a number of subjects, including cosmological tests, observations of distant galaxies and their formation and evolution, fundamental properties of ???????????????? and their origins, ?????????????? ??????????????, ???????????? ??????????-?????? ????????????, ?????????????????????????? ????????????, ???????????????? ????????????????, ?????????????? ?????? ??????????????, etc.
His publications include several hundred papers in professional journals and conferences, and a large number of electronic publications. In the recent years, his interests turned towards the ways in which information and computation technologies are changing the ways we do science and scholarship in general. He was one of the founders of the Virtual Observatory concept, the principal investigator of three digital sky surveys, and is currently working on the establishment of Astroinformatics, a bridge discipline between astronomy and applied computer science and information technology.
