The origins of this day are unclear, but some historians believe that it dates back to ancient Rome or possibly even further back to ancient Persia.
However, the most commonly accepted theory is that it began in France during the 16th century. In 1582, France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, which meant that New Year's Day was moved from the end of March to the beginning of January.
Those who continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st were called "fools" and were subject to ridicule and pranks by those who embraced the new calendar.
Luxury brands have been known to participate in April Fool's Day stunts as a way to show their creativity and humour.

One of the most memorable April Fool's Day stunts by a luxury brand was in 2014, when French fashion house Louis Vuitton released a video announcing the launch of a new line of luxury handbags for dogs. The video showcased miniature versions of the brand's iconic handbags, complete with a leash and dog collar. While the campaign was clearly a joke, it received widespread attention and helped to further establish Louis Vuitton's reputation as a playful and innovative brand.
In 2017, Louis Vuitton released a tongue-in-cheek video announcing the launch of their new luxury toilet paper, complete with the iconic monogram print. The video quickly went viral, with many people unsure if it was a real product or not.
In 2018, Gucci released a video introducing their new wearable technology product called the "Gucci Band." The band was supposed to enhance the wearer's life by analysing their mood and offering personalised recommendations for activities and experiences.
In 2019, Rolls-Royce released a video promoting their new self-driving sofa, which would allow passengers to recline in luxury while the car drove itself. The video was well-received for its clever use of humour and satire.
In what has to be my favourite prank from a luxury brand, Tiffany did a post on their official Instagram @tiffanyandco account announcing their new “house” colour was?#TiffanyYellow. It took the internet by storm, garnering nearly 500,000 likes and thousands of comments.
However, a few months later, it turned out, that Tiffany Yellow became the new house colour for a popup installation at its Beverly Hills store on Rodeo Drive. Out went the Tiffany Blue colour scheme and in came yellow furniture, fixtures, and even boxes and bags to showcase a temporary collection of yellow diamond jewelry including the 130 carat “Tiffany Yellow” diamond.

1 年What great pranks, and actually a great way to see if a new quirky product might actually take off. When people aren't sure if it is real or not, there is a chance they would want to purchase it - especially the dog bundle. I can absolutely see that one being popular. Tiffany's did it right by using it as a foreshadow for a "yellow" promotion. I love them all Elizabeth!
