Most Managers Are Clueless. ??

Most Managers Are Clueless. ??

Yep, I said it. Gallup's data doesn't lie: less than 1 in 5 managers actually have what it takes to lead. Shocking? Not really. Painful? Absolutely.

But hold onto your hats—this is just the beginning. These so-called "leaders" are responsible for a staggering 70% of the variance in employee engagement across business units. Translation: Your team's vibe, productivity, and morale are basically at the mercy of a manager who may or may not know what they're doing. Let that sink in.

Bosses are so out of touch it's scary. ??

Here’s a gut punch from a Forbes study done four years ago. Ask 4,000 bosses what they need to get better at, and what do they say? Tech skills and finance. Eye roll. Meanwhile, 4,000 employees were asked what their bosses should actually improve on, and guess what? Not a single one mentioned tech or finance. Zero. Nada. But a whopping 89% said their bosses desperately need to up their game in leadership and emotional intelligence. It’s 2024—how are we still dealing with this level of self-delusion?

Empathetic and empowering leadership: the real deal

You want your team to thrive? It’s time to ditch the outdated leadership models and get real with some empathetic and empowering leadership training. Here’s how:

1.???? Psychological safety: if your team feels like they’re walking on eggshells, you’ve already lost. Create an environment where they can speak up, take risks, and screw up—without fearing the axe. That’s when innovation actually happens.

2.???? Building trust: trust isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the bedrock of any high-performing team. Be transparent, be consistent, and for the love of all things sacred, be reliable. When your team trusts you, they'll move mountains.

3.???? Promoting autonomy: micromanaging is the ultimate buzzkill. Give your team the freedom to make decisions and own their projects. You’ll see morale soar, and accountability and growth will naturally follow.

4.???? Fostering growth: stop being just a boss and start being a mentor. Invest in your team's development, give them opportunities to learn, and actually celebrate their wins. When your people see a future, they’ll go all in.

The equation is simple: IQ + EQ = a future where work doesn't suck

This isn’t rocket science, people. When you bring emotional intelligence into the leadership equation, everyone wins. Employees feel valued, managers stop being clueless, and companies stop being dumpster fires. So, let’s stop talking about it and start doing it. Let’s create workplaces where everyone feels heard, respected, and ready to kick ass.

French wisdom to guide and empower you along the way

1. "L'intelligence émotionnelle est l'arme secrète des leaders modernes; elle transforme les défis en opportunités et les équipes en communautés soudées."

Translation: "Emotional intelligence is the secret weapon of modern leaders; it transforms challenges into opportunities and teams into tight-knit communities."

2. "Dans un monde professionnel obsédé par les résultats, l'intelligence émotionnelle est le rebelle silencieux qui rappelle l'importance de l'humain."

Translation: "In a professional world obsessed with results, emotional intelligence is the silent rebel that reminds us of the importance of the human element."

3. "Sans intelligence émotionnelle, le leadership n'est qu'une coquille vide, incapable de galvaniser, d'inspirer ou de diriger avec c?ur."

Translation: "Without emotional intelligence, leadership is just an empty shell, incapable of galvanizing, inspiring, or leading with heart."

Check out how at Human Rebellion we can help your managers to better leaders.

Stay rebellious, stay human. ???

Until next time,

Stephan

Stephan, you raise a critical point! The disconnect between what leaders think they need and what teams truly value, like empathy, trust, and emotional intelligence, is something I see time and time again in my work. It's no longer enough to lead with technical skills alone. Leaders today must foster environments of psychological safety, where teams feel empowered and valued. I believe in transforming leadership by integrating emotional intelligence and human-centered practices. It’s about helping leaders shift from outdated paradigms to creating authentic connections that inspire and energize their teams. When we focus on both the IQ and the EQ, that’s when true transformation happens. Let’s continue pushing for leadership that prioritizes people and purpose! So I return the favor with a question in French: Comment pouvez-vous exploiter votre plein potentiel en tant que leader tout en restant authentique et connecté à votre équipe ?
