The Most Important Word Ever According to Bill and Warren...

Do you know who Bill and Warren are?

If you are thinking ping pong champions…

You would be definitely wrong.

Well you know the answer Bill Gates on the right (who founded Microsoft),

And Warren Buffett on the left (who founded Berkshire Hathaway).

Then - you likely knew this next fact...

They are worth a combined somewhere north of 180 billion.

Well I have something more inspiring I just learned and want to share.

It’s a story about these two that will surprise you...

Because it contains a secret that you and I know but are probably not practicing.

It’s a story about the first time Bill and Warren met… At a much younger age.

Warren had heard about a young prodigy Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft and he wanted to meet him.

The two decided to meet and they got together at Bill’s fathers’ house.

Once Warren and Bill sat down, they talked for hours sharing their philosophy’s on work, productivity, and the future.

Then, Bill’s father chimed in…“Here’s a pen and sheet of paper for each of you…
I want you to write down the one word that you believe is the foundation of your success.”

Without hesitation, both Bill and Warren wrote down their words.

As Bill’s father collected their answers, he could not believe his eyes.

Both Bill and Warren wrote down the exact-same-word.

At this point...

You and I would likely agree whatever word they wrote must be important.

Possibly, the most valuable word in the English language…

Well at least… when it comes to creating incredibly profitable and impactfull businesses… that is.

“OK, OK, Daniel! What is the word, already?!”

Well not before you admire a picture of Bill and Warren rallying it up with a giant ping pong paddle.

OK - Now to get back to the story!

Both Bill and Warren had written down the word. Focus

They had individually, and unknowingly to each other, written down the word focus as the learned behavior most responsible for their success.

Now I am a huge believer of the fact that success leaves clues.

I can’t imagine a bigger clue than two of history’s most successful men both writing the word focus as their most cherished characteristic.

So now I absolutely have to ask you…

Are you focused?

Or asked another way…

What business growth are you experiencing as a direct result of your focus (or lack thereof)?

Hmm…

Here’s an observation:

We live in the most distracted and unfocused time in all of history.

We are surrounded by chimes, bells and buzzing.

This is adding to the challenge of staying focused and on task. We are also busier than ever.

That last point is really important:

Busyness is not Focus.

Busyness is a tell-tale sign that you are chasing the shiny ball, trading important - focused - work, for immediate gratification type activity.

This is time spent doing things that are not helping you grow your business. 

Working on your website, designing your business cards, randomly posting general content on social media, writing newsletters and blogs, podcasting, live streaming without a plan and strategy...

Maybe you are measuring numbers that don't really matter for example “likes”, “comments”, or “subscribers”. These are vanity metrics and should not be used as proof that you have any form of business growth.

You need to have a laser-focused, step-by-step path that you are following.

You must have a strategy and system to accomplish the two most important tasks every day in your business to see growth.

There are two systems that you must implement in your business.

System #1 You must have a predictable way to generate leads every day week in week out.

System #2 You must have a way to convert those leads into paying clients.

If you don’t have these two systems in your business…

It means you are not growing your business and you are probably unfocused.

Or focused entirely on the wrong things.

It means you are likely busying yourself but not getting any traction.

Now…

I share all of this not to judge you,

But as a warning - because I was once terrifyingly unfocused.

Even though I would have argued that reality.

  • I worked 12 to 14 hour days,
  • believed in my dream,
  • was relentlessly checking off to-do’s

and yet…

My business was not growing.

I had tons of social media followers, subscribers and engagement.

But I wasn’t operating with focus.

And the lack of revenue in my business spoke the loudest.

Once I created a step-by-step process and implemented these two systems mentioned above:

Everything changed, almost overnight.

I no longer wondered where the next client was going to come from and I consistently had sales conversations with my right and ideal clients.

So…

If you are tired of guessing where your next client is going to come from.

If you are constantly wondering what you should work on next.

If you are over busying yourself to try and get results.

If you are exhausted chasing the latest marketing trend.

And,
