Many job seekers spend a large part of their job search process trying to figure out what are the most important keywords to include in their resume.

The right keywords are one of the items that can determine if you get through resume pre-screening databases, if you get blocked by Applicant Tracking Systems or even human review.

So one of the things that blocks you from interviews is your ability to guess keywords. Many times, you can improve your chances of guessing the right keywords by avoiding mistakes in your resume and job search strategy.

1. There's Not Just One Set Of Keywords That Will Work For Different Openings:?Recruiters for each company use individual criteria for their individual jobs, reflecting the hiring manager's unique needs, and their own internal terminology.
2. The Most Important Resume Keywords Aren't In The Job Description:?Most job seekers search the job description for potential keywords, or run the job description through keyword generation tools like JobScan. But the most important keywords aren't in the job description, because that description almost never reflect the hiring manager's current needs. Most job descriptions are recycled from the departing employee, are standardized/generic for the position's level (to reduce legal risk), or for new positions, written during the prior year's budget cycle so they're 1+ years old.
