The Most Important Resource You Need For Your Next Level

A few weeks ago I decided to take a survey and ask a few people what they think they needed right now to get to their next level, the answers varied but the majority said money, travel, and a lot of other things. But nobody mentioned one very vital resource that everyone has leveraged in life. The most important resource you need to advance your business and career is not money. It’s not even your educational qualifications, your business acumen, or your experience, it’s people. Yes, people.

If you take a moment to think deeply, you’ll realize that everything you have achieved so far has come through people. That skill you possess, someone taught it to you. That job you got, someone recommended you. The salary you earn, someone pays you. The customers that patronize your business, they’re all people.

It’s no wonder they say that your network is your net worth. The people you know and are connected to can make all the difference in your career or business.

Understanding this fact is crucial to your success. For every level you want to attain, you need people. You need to develop the ability to relate to people, create conversations with them, and build a network of people that can advance you.

Here are two skills you need to consciously work on every day of your life:

1. Relational skills

Relational skills are the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with people. It involves being a good listener, empathizing with others, and knowing how to ask the right questions.

To develop your relational skills, start by making an effort to connect with people on a personal level. Take an interest in their lives, and ask them questions about themselves. Show genuine concern and care for them, and try to see things from their perspective.

2. Networking skills

Networking involves building a network of people who can help you advance your career or business. This can be done online and offline and involves reaching out to people and building relationships with them.

To build your network, start by identifying people you want to connect with. These could be people in your industry, potential mentors, or even customers. Then, find ways to connect with them, such as through LinkedIn, social media, or networking events.

You’re just a few people away from meeting anyone in life. Let’s say you’re an aspiring writer, and your dream is to get your book published. You might think it’s impossible to get in touch with a big-name publisher, but what if you knew someone who knew someone who worked at that publisher? It might not guarantee that your book gets published, but it certainly improves your chances.

Develop good communication skills, learn to relate well, and build genuine friendships.

Here's what you can do to commit to developing these two skills immediately:

  1. Leave a comment below, sharing whether you believe that you need people to succeed. You can also share a personal experience to illustrate this point.
  2. Reach out to people who have blessed you in the past but whom you may have neglected or undervalued. Let them know that you appreciate them and want to stay connected.
  3. Identify people you need to move to the next phase of your life. Seek ways to connect with them and build a relationship with them.

Wrapping Up

In conclusion, people are the most important resource you need to advance your business and career. So don’t underestimate the power of human connections – they can make all the difference. By developing your relational and networking skills, you can build a network of supporters, mentors, and advocates who can help you succeed.
