The most important aspect of Innovation is not technology, it is value.

One of the clear-cut things in the world around us is that innovation is a priority, for companies, for people, for social policies and for the entire concept of State. In every organization you can’t help but innovate because today’s revenues are made with today’s (sometime boring) main-stream activities, but tomorrow’s revenues will be generated thanks to today’s real innovation policies.
There's an innovation definition that I love:
"Innovation is the process of creating value starting from ideas"
(Joe Tidd and John Bessant - Managing Innovation)
this means that Innovation is not made up of ideas, those can be generated using creativity techniques and during the creativity divergent process.
According to this definition we could say that Innovation is the process and that the real goal of this whole process is generating value, for companies, for people, for consumers, for citizens, for the World.
Most of the times the technology is important, is a key point, is an extraordinary enabler for innovation initiatives, but the real goal should not be the use of technologies, the real goal is the creation of value. The real goal is building a better world.
What do you think?
Are your innovation activities technology driven or value driven?
I look forward to read your experiences!

5 年Referring to IT technologies, innovation is often something that allows you to do the same thing faster and safier. Sometimes innovation is not immediately visible and you can appreciate it only when you gain time focusing on business rather than daily operations.
