The most impactful Cloud news

  • Economic downturn, spiralling interest rates and high levels of inflation are unlikely to impact the growth in spending on public cloud which is expected to reach $591B in 2023, a 20.7% uptick from 2022,?according to Gartner. CEOs and CFOs see cloud as a competitive advantage and therefore urging internal technology stakeholders to double down on the move to the cloud.
  • It is always fascinating to have a debate on next impactful societal problems that will be solved by tech. Werner Vogels presented his own view on where the tech will take us in 2023 and beyond. Werner's five takes are 1) Cloud will redefine sports, 2) Simulated world will unlock the unimaginable through experimentation, 3) A surge of innovation in smart energy, 4) Supply chain transformation, and 5) Custom purpose-built chips will go mainstream. Download the full report from?here.
  • On the theme of technology predictions, AWS shared five (yes, also five)?public sector technology predictions. We are expected to see a greater adoption of AI and ML, use cloud to improve citizens experience, gain more access to digital twins and large-scale simulations, see advances in?quantum computing?and also some initial motion to commercialising the global space industry.
  • The Government of Kuwait are set to?roll out a comprehensive digital transformation roadmap?across entities and key state-owned enterprises through?Google Cloud. This supports the Government of Kuwait’s Vision 2035 to transform Kuwait into a digital society and reimagined economy. With this alliance, Google is looking to open a state-of-the-art cloud region in the country.
  • Kingfisher, an international home improvement company, has signed a?five-year strategic partnership with Google Cloud?to enhance Kingfisher’s digital capabilities and evolve the retail organisation to the next digital age. As one of the largest SAP estate in Europe, and Kingfisher is migrating on-premise legacy workloads to?Google Cloud. This is unlocking faster and more flexible access to its existing data as it prepares for the digital future. We should soon see significant performance improvements to the Screwfix e-commerce website, as well as scaling up the B&Q to more than four million products.
