As a designer, you have a resume and a portfolio.
And If you’re actively applying for jobs then you’ve probably got a project to show too.
All 3 are necessary for helping you land a job.
But what about after you get the job?
What most designers are missing is the piece they desperately need: A personal brand.
Resume is data.
Portfolio is data.
A Project is confirmation of your skills in the setting of the company.
A Personal brand is what helps you stand out and establish yourself in the industry. It’s what makes you recognizable within your company.

Your resume, portfolio and given project is what helps you land the job. Your personal brand is what helps you after you secure the job, helping to get the raise, the promotion, etc.
If you don’t have a personal brand, you need to create one.
Having a strong personal brand is the difference between a company willingly giving you a generous raise and you maybe getting a re-negotiated, lower raise after asking for one more than once.
So let’s break this down. If you don’t have one, this will get you started:
Simply put, your personal brand is your who, what, and why.
Broken down that looks like:
