Most Decisions Are Not Forever Decisions
I used to think I had to stick with every decision I made, forever. It was wrapped up in perfectionism, getting it 'right', and seeing change as giving up and failing.
This is what happens when you're a people-pleaser, seeing the world through other people's eyes... or at least what you assume they are thinking.
This is what happens when you take on cultural beliefs that not completing every endeavor means you've given up and are a quitter.
Now I know better. Once I understood that I had choices, and one of them was to change course, it freed me.
It didn't mean I was a failure; rather it unleashed curiosity, creativity and new opportunities.
Life became more interesting.
After all, taking a risk and trying something new can be exciting and scary at the same time. Only this time around I'm able to see letting go as a strength.
We talk a lot about happiness, but hold on to very restrictive ways of approaching life. We save our happiness for 'someday', while always striving for better and more today.
I am meeting my responsibilities AND leaving time for activities and projects that give me satisfaction; satisfy my curiosity; explore my creativity.
Life is too short to be doing absolutely everything to the -nth degree.
