The Most Dangerous Realization Any Professional Will Ever Make

Last week I caught up with a former colleague of mine who like me, left Corporate. In our chat, he was congratulating my move into being a full-time practitioner, and I used the opportunity to find out what he had been getting up to since resigning.

He mentioned that amongst other things, he had begun looking for a job, and the search wasn't yielding much fruit. I proceeded to ask him if he had considered consulting, and he remarked that he'd look for opportunities there too. The atmosphere shifted when I said: "I mean have you considered being an independent consultant?" He took a pregnant pause and then admitted that the thought hadn't crossed his mind.

Now hear me well: there is nothing wrong with people looking for a job, or even being in Corporate, but what I'm about to tell you is something that will change your mindset forever. I call it a?dangerous realization?because once this registers, you will never look at work the same way again.

Here it is:

You?are the talent.

You?are the carrier of the transformation.

Where?you?go is where the value resides.

The?money comes from?you.

When I started replacing my Corporate salary with only a handful of clients in my coaching practice...

When I realized I just needed about 2 speaking engagements, lasting 1 hour each, to make what I used to make in a whole month...

And when I started seeing people's lives and careers genuinely changing because of investing in my Purpose to Profession programme...

When people didn't just want a service but wanted ME to render it...

I knew I was onto something.

I understood that?I am the sauce!

Not the job.

Not a position.

Nothing outside of me.

Me!

So I told my former colleague that with all his experience, brilliance and?expertise, and having left Corporate at a senior level, he would benefit a great deal from leveraging that, instead of relying on a company to add a value to what he already knows and is able to do.

Again:

You?are the talent.

You?are the carrier of the transformation.

Where?you?go is where the value resides.

The?money comes from?you.

Knowing this then should alleviate whatever fears you have about stepping into your NEXT. If anything, it should make you curious. Excited. Expectant.
