THE MORPHOGENETIC FIELD-WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO KNOW?

For those who will enjoy going down the rabbit hole with me, for a moment, let’s go!

Morphogenetic fields, equivalent to attractor patterns, are, according to Rupert Sheldrake, part of the theory of formative causation. This means that energy fields of form evolve and reinforce each other. Morphic fields underlie our mental activity and our perceptions, and lead to a new theory of vision.

That may have sounded like a foreign language to some of you, and this concept is not a common topic of conversation. However, it is of utmost importance to understand what this is, in order to get a handle on why we often feel and behave the way we do-especially especially given our current human “condition”.

Social groups are organized by such fields, as are schools of fish and flocks of birds. Have you ever seen the coordinated performance of a flock of birds or school of fish? It is fascinating to me how finely tuned these beings are to each other as they move as one.

Morphic fields (like the dance of a school of fish) take place in self-organizing systems called resonance. Morphic resonance involves the transfer of information across space and time.

Are you with me?

It is possible that in the human culture, there are information-transfer systems, with a global memory, which would work without all the normal paraphernalia of satellites, wires, booster stations etc.

Human societies have memories that are transmitted through the culture of the group. The fields organizing the activity of the human nervous system are likewise inherited through morphic resonance, conveying a collective, instinctive memory. Each individual draws upon and contributes to the collective memory of the species.

This means that new patterns of behaviour can spread more rapidly than would otherwise be possible. For example, if rats of a particular breed learn a new trick in Harvard, then rats of that breed should be able to learn the same trick faster all over the world, say in Edinburgh and Melbourne. There is already evidence from laboratory experiments (discussed in A New Science of Life) that this actually happens.

Or what about the 100th monkey experiment? The account is that unidentified scientists were conducting a study of macaque monkeys on the island of Kōjima in 1952. These scientists observed that some of these monkeys learned to wash sweet potatoes, and gradually this new behaviour spread through the younger generation of monkeys—in the usual fashion, through observation and repetition. The researchers then observed that once a critical number of monkeys was reached, (the hundredth monkey) this previously learned behaviour instantly spread across the water to monkeys on nearby islands- who had not had the opportunity to observe this particular behaviour.

When a dog is strongly bonded to its owner, this bond persists even when the owner is far away. Many dogs know when their owners are coming home and start waiting for them by a door or window.

This animal telepathy is evidence of the way that animal groups are organized by morphic fields. Since the 1920s many developmental biologists have proposed that biological organization depends on fields, variously called biological fields, or developmental fields, or positional fields, or morphogenetic fields.

So, what does this have to do with anything? Stay with me…

Habits are subject to natural selection; and the more often they are repeated, the more probable they become, other things being equal. Animals inherit the successful habits of their species as instincts.

We inherit bodily, emotional, mental and cultural habits from each other and from our ancestors-REGARDLESS OF DISTANCE OR TIME.

 Alas…my hypothesis…

What if the fear of sickness and death is a morphogenetic field? It does fit the definition….

What if observing others and hearing about others being fearful almost damn sure concludes that we will all become fearful and we’ll all get sick? Negativity and fear are very, very seductive.

What if we carry the memory and terror of death from all past plagues and disasters that have impacted the planet, in our DNA and that that is powerful enough on its own to keep our collective mood down? What are you noticing?

What if a large part of our population believes and acts in ways that demonstrate that a virus can pass to each other easily and that succumbing is almost a certainty? Then what?

What if more and more people who create a habit of paying attention to bad news and talking about it, keep alive the idea that the present sucks and that the future is doomed? Do you?

What will happen? Indeed.

What if instead, we could create a morphogenetic field of positive influence and a belief in mind over matter-a belief that we only get sick if we believe in getting sick? That we believe in wellness and our ability to create that?

What if we entertain, every day, a positive prayer over everyone that we all stay safe, enjoy good health and thereby, invite in a new hopeful energy?

Perhaps it is time for all of us to practice reasonable safe distancing and hand washing while also practising positive thoughts about what gifts can be gained by life slowing down or what each of us can learn from all of this?

How about we talk about a hopeful outcome to this situation in which we find ourselves?

What if we all chose to think about a quick and easy resolution to this world condition? One that came from our hearts?

What if this world condition resolved to one in which we all lived in harmony with our Mother-planet earth?

What if we chose to live in ways that were sustainable and in loving resonance with our planet, the universe, and each other?

Now that would be a future worth imagining…and talking about.
