You did it! You applied for a job and now, a few weeks later, you got an interview invitation. They would love to see you in person and get to know you better. You are stoked but also extremely nervous. What if they don’t like me? What if I cannot show them that I am the best candidate? You don’t know what to expect and want your performance to meet up with expectations. Do you recognize this feeling? If yes, then let’s dive into why preparation is important and what you can do to properly prepare for a job interview.??
It is crucial to understand the importance of solid job interview preparation. The job interview is your opportunity to set a trustworthy image of yourself. If you prepare yourself accordingly, you will feel more confident. If your know more less what could happen, it will boost your performance during the interview. What I noticed is that everyone needs a different level of job interview preparation. Some like to prepare everything in great detail, while others take a more general approach and like to go with the flow. Always do what works best for you.??
That being said, let’s explore 5 tips to keep a smile on your face and your confidence high.??
Don’t forget that a job interview is a 2-way street. It is an opportunity on both sides to get to know each other better and see if you like each other. So before you head over to the interview, don’t forget to note down what you would like to get out of this interview. What are your goals, what is important for you? Can this company, this job, provide you a purpose that resonates with you? Or in other words, what do you need to feel happy at work???
When preparing for a job interview, we tend to only focus on the question: ‘’What does the recruiter/hiring manager want to hear?’’ We think of suitable and smart answers to this question and might get a little lost adjusting our answer towards the expectations of the interview committee. While this is a good question to think about, it is also important to note down what you, as a candidate, want to share with the company. What experience and which examples would you like to share during this interview based on the requirements of the vacancy? What are the things you would like to know of the company or position before you decide if this is the right job for you????
During a job interview, the recruiter/hiring manager will usually lead the conversation. If you listen carefully, you will find out what the company expects from the new team member and more. But because of the nerves, we sometimes forget to listen. Listening allows us to ask in-depth questions about expectations, direction and company culture. So before the interview starts, mentally prepare yourself to listen very carefully.??
