In my twenties, I was a night owl, you know, always late to work, staying up all night for anything and anyone.
My thirties were a transition. Starting businesses, having kids one after another because why not, and beginning my fitness journey—all that pushed me to make a lot of changes to my routine.
In my forties, I'm definitely a morning person, and I love it. Here are some tips ↓
- If you want to be in the high-level business world and build something ambitious, you need a lot of energy, and you won't get it by spending your nights like an unfocused teenager goofing off.
- If I could go back in time, I'd do this: be clear the night before about what I’m going to do the next day. Without the habit of a checklist, we all tend to drift. Don’t be like that.
- The secret to waking up early is nothing more than going to bed early. This sounds really dumb, I know, but you have no idea how many times I've been seriously asked how I manage to be so productive and wake up early. Many people don't even consider going to bed at nine or ten at night; they find it insulting. Focus on not insulting your goals simply because you have an endless menu of distractions at your fingertips and fall into them easily.
- Have a winning sleep stack. This is the most pro tip. Do your homework with AI to understand this. Take a screenshot of this text and ask it to explain it in a minimalist, powerful table with analogies and examples. And always prompt it like that.
- I rarely exercise in the mornings. It's my most creative and clear-headed time, so I dive right in early to take notes, send messages, write articles, design strategies, and tackle everything I think is important for my business. By noon, 80% of my work is done.
- The other 20% of my daily work is going to the gym in my city or the hotel I'm staying at, but it has to happen no matter what. I don't see this as optional. Being strong, precise, flexible, mastering my lazy body, taming my wild-animal mindset—this is an important part of my daily work. Few see their body and mind as the most critical tools for putting bread on their table for themselves and their families. Your body and mind need daily calibration. There's no better way to calibrate them than to make them sweat, tire them out, and put them into intense activity. If you don't do this, you're not being the great entrepreneur you want to be. Look at Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and others in this line. Don't be one of those who immediately share silly examples of people who don't prioritize fitness. You don't want to be like that.
- I don't expect anyone to respond to a message at 6:15 in the morning, but I also don't hold back from sending it at "a more appropriate time." If the suppliers, collaborators, or clients I deal with daily see early messages from me as a problem, then I'm not interested in interacting with them. I expect their responses during standard business hours, of course, but I'm not going to worry about whether they put their phone on silent or not to avoid being disturbed by my communication. They're not little kids I have to take care of. I'm not going to do the world's work when I can barely handle my own.
The first thing I do when I wake up is smile. I make an effort to smile. I'm not going to tell you that I meditate in a lotus position for two hours with Tibetan mantras in the background focusing on opening my chakras. I simply smile to set the tone I want my soul to carry for the rest of the day. I stomp barefoot on the ground to connect with Mother Earth because, although I don't know if it works, I found it romantic the day I read it somewhere and I like the feeling. Also, I drink a glass of water to activate something in my body, though I'm not sure what.
Done. Start executing things, telling yourself things that push you towards wealth. Drill into yourself "I am a morning person."
Waking up early doesn't magically make you money, but mastering the wild aspects of your personality does. That's why I insist so much on it.
