Last Friday, 36-year-old Mickael Gedlu of Dallas, TX was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for threats he made against President Donald Trump. Official documents say Gedlu allegedly threatened President Trump's life on social media on multiple occasions between December 2018 and June 2019. According to court documents, in one social media posting, Gedlu stated, "waiting for Trump to visit Dallas before I attempt to assassinate him.”
During court proceedings, prosecutors said that in May of 2018, Gedlu was “observed across the street from Dallas’ Adolphus Hotel” 30 minutes before President Trump arrived for a fundraiser, where he was seen holding a “kill Trump” sign and shouting “kill the president.” Additionally, officials say Gedlu allegedly made a Facebook post in June 2019 that stated, “For 20 straight months now, openly and publicly, I have been calling for President Trump’s death.” According to U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox, Gedlu initially faced up to five years in prison, however, he received a reduced sentence and will serve three years of supervised release after leaving prison.
