The Morley-Ellenbrook Line Project Update
The Morley-Ellenbrook Line project, part of Perth’s METRONET expansion, has reached significant milestones, setting the stage for the project's completion later this year. As of August 2024, all 84,000 meters of rail have been laid, marking 100% completion of the track. This 21-kilometer line, which is crucial for improving public transport across Perth’s northeastern suburbs, is set to drastically cut travel times and enhance connectivity for the region. Several key stations along the line, such as Ellenbrook, Whiteman Park, and the newly named Ballajura Station, are either completed or in the final stages of construction. Ellenbrook Station, in particular, is fully operational, with the surrounding precinct adorned with public art and landscaping, while Ballajura Station is nearly ready, with structural work and key installations completed. Notably, public art is playing a significant role in the station designs, with contributions from local artists adding cultural depth and visual appeal.
Electrification of the line is scheduled for late August 2024, with subsequent testing phases to ensure everything is operational before the line opens to the public. Once complete, this project will deliver a major boost to public transportation in the area, fulfilling long-standing community demands for better services.
The Western Australian government remains committed to delivering this rail line by the end of 2024, with expectations that the first trains will be running soon after. This is a major win for residents of Perth’s growing north-eastern corridor, who have been eagerly awaiting enhanced public transport options.
