The more you give to your team, the more you receive!

The more you give to your team, the more you receive!

“We make a living by what we get. But we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill

Festivals this beautiful feeling of celebrations. It is the only time of the year when everyone is super-excited and that blissfulness in the air is simply magical. Festivals also bring another joy besides the holiday happiness. The joy of receiving gifts from your loved ones.

Being a leader in my own self, I believe in one thing - the more you give, the more you receive. And, I love to share this philosophy at work as well. As the aroma of thanksgiving is fresh in the air, I thought it is the perfect time to write something that goes well with the underlying philosophy of Thanksgiving - thanking every person for making your life as beautiful as it is today.

I’m going to share a few personal thoughts on how by giving something to your team members, you actually receive a lot. Hope you are going to like reading it, and will be able to relate with it.

Give them the freedom, receive their trust

One of the most significant contributors in laying down the foundation of a successful team is ‘Trust’. You need to have faith in your team’s ability to handle pressure, tasks and projects. But, how do you show that trust?

The answer is pretty simple - give them the creative freedom they need. Don’t bind them with unnecessary rules. From offering flexibility in timing to dressing the way they want to and decorating their work stations just in a way that excites them and gets them going. You need to bestow these gifts to your team, and in return you will get unparalleled trust.

Give them their share of praise, receive respect

Monetary perks have become obsolete. Performance reviews, appraisals, incentives, and more - all these are regular. And, employees can get it with every organization they choose to work with. But, the one thing that most companies don’t tend to offer the employees is their due share of praise and appreciation.

Let me ask you - when was the last time your manager or team leader thanked you for completing your work on time? When was the last time you actually received an appreciation mail for helping out your team member stuck in a fix?

As small as these things may seem, the fact of the matter is that a leader who understands and praises these small courtesies is bound to receive respect and love from her team. And, showing courtesy doesn't cost a dime. Does it?

Give them reasons to celebrate, receive great results

It is the duty of your team to deliver results. But as a leader of the team it is your duty to make sure that the team always has a reason to celebrate, so that they can always work with full enthusiasm and deliver their best.

This is exactly what we follow here at ProofHub. There is hardly a week that goes without celebration. In fact, we don’t reasons to celebrate. We celebrate even the smallest of achievements. Whether it is the birthday of a team member, someone’s work anniversary, someone bought a new car or house, or any other reason to be happy for that matter.

We are always in the mood to throw in some karaoke, some crazy dance moves and groove together to celebrate the feeling of being a TEAM. And, this is how we achieve great results, together!

Give them reasons to stay, and have a winning team

It has become more of a cliche than anything else - people don’t leave their companies, they leave their managers. No matter how cliche it may sound, but the sentence is cent percent true. You need to be a manager who gives people reasons to stay with the company, not to leave.

To achieve this you don’t need some magic potion. All you need is some empathy, a logical behavior and courteous attitude. And, you will see that people would stay with you for years. Trust me, I’ve been using the same philosophy throughout my career and I’ve been blessed with one of the best team’s one can ever ask for.

By listening to what my team members have to say, discussing things rather than ordering, appreciating their efforts equally during success and failure, I’ve managed to create a team that I can even go to a war with, without giving a second thought.

That’s how I’ve understood the true power behind giving and receiving. By giving my share of something to my team members, I’ve received fortune and success in my professional life.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some amazing people throughout my career. And, would love this journey to continue for years to come.
