Be more vulture in your naming

Be more vulture in your naming

Don’t you love a good collective noun?

?

An unkindness of ravens.

A murder of crows.

A wake of vultures.

A cauldron of bats.

?

Whoever was in charge of naming groups of animals was a creative genius.

?

They’re so descriptive. ?So interesting. ?So full of personality.

?

So the next time you’re choosing a name for something, like:

?

  • the subject line of an email
  • a title for a presentation
  • a meeting invitation

?

…be more vulture.

?

Think about how you can add more personality to get people to engage with you.

?

No more ‘Updates’ (yawn) ‘Quarterly reviews’ (snore) or ‘Weekly team meetings’ (deep, deep sleep). ?

?

I’m sure you can think of more engaging names.

?

Remember: in our attention economy, personality is the new currency.

?

Good writing isn’t necessarily effective writing these days.

?

So try being more vulture (after all, no-one was ever criticised for being too interesting.)
