More Too Life: The Fight against Human Trafficking
Brian Gallagher
CEO, The Leargas Group I Former Global CEO United Way I Board Director
In 2012 and 2013, I had the great honor to serve on the President’s Advisory Council for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. One of the most eye-opening tragedies I learned more about is global human trafficking. This issue isn’t confined to the places we rarely hear about, it’s happening in cities and communities near each of us, and there are an estimated 20.9 million victims worldwide. After I served on the Council, I directed United Way to launch our Center on Human Trafficking & Slavery to help eradicate human trafficking. Just last year, we brought together more than 150 organizations to found Generation Freedom to increase funding and advocacy.
United Way also stands with Dr. Brook Bello, a human trafficking survivor herself, who started an organization called More Too Life to advocate for victims of human trafficking. Her remarkable story is the focus of Episode 3 of “The Hero Effect,” which airs this coming Saturday morning on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
