More Than a Singular Identity: Challenging the Asian Monolith in the Workplace

The world of work is changing and people aren’t just changing how they work, but why they work – and they’re looking for the workplace to keep up. This includes recognition of their unique identities and heritages, and empowering people to bring their full selves to work. That’s why this Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we’re shining a light on the many different identities that make up the community by sharing and celebrating stories from the AAPI community.?

In the workplace, and in U.S. culture at large, the AAPI community can be treated as a monolith, with the expectation that all “Asian” individuals are part of the same cultural identity. In reality, there are over 50 ethnic groups and 100 languages making up “AAPI,” and the community encompasses a diverse range of identities and cultural reference points.?
