More Than A Run

Earlier today, I set out for my typical 5km - 6.5km run.
I have been running within this threshold for a while now and I felt that I had maxed out my limits, so I stuck with the threshold.
As a result of the imposed lock-down due to Covid-19, I and a few friends started a 100km run challenge and we tracked our progress via the @Nike App.
Prior to my run today, I ranked 2nd with a total of 84.2km, and my friend who was top of the leader board had a total of 95.04km.
I had estimated that I needed to do at least 3 more runs of my typical 5km to attain the 100km mark, just so I could complete the challenge and not necessarily to win as I was certain my friend in the first place was definitely going to win based on the stats.
However, as I began the run today, I asked myself a question;
What's stopping you from covering twice or even thrice as much your typical distance? I had no answers. So I challenged myself to do better.
All it took was the mindset/willpower to do more and be better than I was previously.
The TLDR of it all is that I did my best run today of 16.22km and completed the challenge ranking 1st.
I re-learned 2 lessons today.
1. Everyone has the willpower to do more, improve, and can actually be better.
2. Although the challenge was for fun and nothing more, I re-learned not to be too comfortable or complacent. My friend led the challenge from inception till this morning. He obviously is a better runner and at some point in the challenge, he was 30km clear of the remaining 10 of us but at some point, his intensity dropped.
As soon as I got back home and all sweaty, the first thing I did was book an exam for an Industry Certification I had been postponing for a short while now.
Why am I sharing this? I actually don't know. Lol
If I was a Managed Endpoint device, an Alert for unusual behavior will typically be sent. Lol
PS: Today I ran, but it was more than a run.

4 年Love this! Had a run challenge in April as well. 150km. Didn't start quite early and I was dangling between 3rd-5th. Was tough but I doubled my pace and came 3rd. Was overjoyed ?? Hope you've been able to take the certification exam?
