More than 2000 containers are lost in ocean since 30-Nov-2020
Almost everyone were waiting the end of 2020 year and the start of new 2021. The situation at the sea shipments from Asia to Europe was nonstandard for ever - due to lack of empty 20/40 feet containers shipping lines forgot about commitments to freight forwarders and 3PL operators and every week increase the rate for containers. In addition to incredibly high rates shipping lines lost 2826 containers since 30th November.
Vessel ONE APUS had been lost overboard the biggest quantity - 1816 containers date 30-Nov-2020. The reason is storm at ocean. Vessel has moored in the port of Kobe, Japan
Vessel MAERSK ESSEN 750 containers have fallen overboard in the North Pacific. The incident occurred while the 13,100 TEU Maersk Essen was sailing from Xiamen, China to Los Angeles, California, on 16 January 2021. The reason the weather conditions.
Vessel MAERSK EIDNHOVEN had been lost not so much as others -250 containers overboard . The incident was quite recently 17-Feb-2021. The vessel was on route from the Chinese port of Xiamen to Los Angeles . The heavy weather was the reason of overboarding again, which is understood to have caused an engine failure.
When I read such kind on news only 2 questions in my mind:
- I hope the sailors are OK and incident do not influent for theirs health.
- What should to do the goods owners (seller/supplier or consignee/buyer)? How to protect the consignee's production of stoppage? who will pay for overtime to produce lost goods? Who will cover costs for premium freight? And what if seller/consignee insured cargo?
Do you insure your cargos?
