Many people believe luck has a significant part in people’s success story, except for people that have become “successful”.
When asked about their “secrets” for success, most successful people attribute little to luck.
However, researchers are finding some interesting correlations between luck and success.
There’s no question successful people have persistence, imagination, intelligence, curiosity, determination, focus, and discipline.?But uncontrollable factors do play a part in peoples success story.
The Matthew Effect is based on the idea that the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
Except for some remarkable kids that overcome tremendous odds, most children born into poverty, abusive situations and neglect have enormous odds to navigate.?Luck isn’t on their side.
Children with more favorable home environments have a significant head start, but that’s no guarantee they will become successful either.?In fact, many don’t.
A group of physicists and economists created a mathematical model that contemplates talent in relation to “lucky opportunities”.?Over a 40-year simulated period people were monitored based on talent, luck or unlucky opportunities.
Turns out, lucky breaks were the catalyst for incredible success.?"Talented" people had little advantage.?So much for overpriced educations.
So, what can we do to produce more lucky opportunities in life?
“Luck? I don't know anything about luck. I've never banked on it and I'm afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work - and realizing what is opportunity and what isn't”.?- Lucille Ball
Here are 9 things we can do to create more lucky situations:
Act
Complaining about lack of opportunity isn’t going to improve our prospects for success.?Even if elected politicians satisfied all our wishes, we still need to act to create extraordinary opportunity for ourselves.?Once we start taking action, we build momentum consistent with success.
Define success
At Anatomy of Success, I encourage people to resist the definition of success offered by society and create their own definition of success.?Once we embrace our ability to create a beautiful life based on our priorities, we get focused on building a life by design.??We define how much money we need and how important health and satisfying relationships will be in our definition of success.?
Vision
By subscribing to the negativity of feeling unlucky, we lack the clarity to envision a successful future.?Until we can picture a dream worth building, we surrender all hope of achieving that dream to chance.?Bad strategy.?Picture good things happening and start to implement the actions required to make them a reality.?

Social circle
Opportunity won’t fall into our lap.?Even if it does, we won’t get far without a strong social circle.?As we’ve discussed the 5 people, we most associate with constitute most of our belief system.?By building a strong personal and professional network, we improve our prospect for success.?Be intentional about the people we surround ourselves with.
Positive attitude
A positive attitude is imperative for success.?When we concentrate on limitations, we create a myriad of barriers that seem insurmountable.?In the process, we program a narrative that lends credibility to the idea of being “unlucky”.?By focusing on the positive aspects of life we develop a mindset consistent with success.?We start to see opportunities where roadblocks previously existed.
“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck”.?- Dalai Lama
Cultivate intuition
The power of intuition is incredible.?Learning to cultivate and listen to our intuition is essential for success.??Making good choices and avoiding bad decisions will prevent unnecessary pain and easily avoidable setbacks.?Strong intuition coupled with an aptitude for critical thinking will be paramount in your quest to succeed.?
Personal responsibility
Life isn’t fair and some people are remarkably disadvantaged.?However unpleasant our current situation is we will never achieve great success if we don’t first take personal responsibility.?Once we claim control of our destiny, we deny any appealing alternative that relegates control to people or circumstances outside our control.?Successful people focus on creating opportunities not waiting for someone to provide them.
Curiosity
Always remain curious.?As children we are born with abundant curiosity.?Well intended parents, teachers and influential friends often discourage our natural curiosities in favor of a “safer” alternatives.?We need to restore our curiosity and continue to activate our innovative instincts.
Hard work??
Don’t mistake luck for sitting around waiting for a miracle.?There’s no substitute for hard work, and even fortunate people that are successful work incredibly hard.??Without a strong work ethic, we have no chance for success.
The harder I work, the luckier I get. - Samuel Goldwyn

2 年I would say my “luck” came from hard work, being raised to ALWAYS put my best foot forward (the Polish immigrant in me) and treat everyone with kindness. It’s a recipe for success and everyone’s description varies. Some people automatically think $ where I think it has to do with #joy and #serenity.
